The Bolivian
president Evo Morales invited United States to support Argentina in the old “debate”
of the Falkland Islands or Islas Malvinas. Today in Cartagena, the South-American
president has produced another pain in the neck to the UK, he said: “… Malvinas
are of Argentina and of the Americas”.
The battle
to obtain the Falkland Islands, between Argentina and the UK, made a very sad
time in the history expressed through a war in 1982 when were killed 649 Argentineans,
255 British and a hundred of suicides from both parts as a result of postwar
traumas.
The thing
is why they still fight for something that could have had so many peaceful
solutions? A very curious thing is that many of the islanders have said that
they feel British, their first language is English and even their family names
are British too, so what Argentina can do in that situation when people feel
identified as part of the UK? Now, why the UK wants such a far island? Falkland
Islands are too far from the British coasts, it feels like going back to colonialism
times! The UK is and will be one of the strongest countries in the world with
or without these islands.
Could be a
solution inviting Unite States to this disagreement? If I were the leader of
Argentina or the UK, my solution will be letting Falkland Islands to have a decision
about if they want to be Argentineans, British or an independent country,
because this conflict looks like is going to finish never.
